Definitions

The evaluation download for both products is the server edition and will expire after 30 days.

Client/Server
Server and client versions are identical except that server supports command line execution, client will only perform automation tasks interactively.
The client is intended for workstation use by BI authors to build and deploy cubes during the development cycle, and by BI administrators to remotely edit server properties.
The server version can be executed by command line also, and is intended for batch processing on a Cognos Transformation Server in a typical server room environment.

DTS
Data Tranaformation Services (DTS) is the ETL tool included with MS SQL Server.
CubeRunner for DTS is a pair of controls that are DTS compliant DLL's. They install as two extra icons in the DTS toolbox, one for build and one for deploy. A single license includes both tools.
The controls must be installed on the SQL server and on any SQL Server DTS clients wishing to edit or run the server packages interactively.
Purchase of at least one server license is compulsory for a DTS installation.
